It’s not the program; it’s the coaching
There are many life lessons that sports teach us and that includes coaching. This photo was taken in Boston, the US in 2015 at Mike Boyle’s facility. One of the highlights in my career was meeting and spending time with Mike and his team. I studied his work for years before finally meeting him in person. I have taken many pages out of his book. How to make your athlete stronger, faster, how to build your business, how to design and implement good programs and systems so that everybody wins.
Ultimately one of the best lessons from Mike was that it’s not the program, it’s the coaching. It’s about people. A program is a piece of paper or a file on a computer. Programs cannot motivate or create accountability. A training plan can’t figure out what’s inside a person and understand how to reveal it. A great coach can do all those things. A great coach will teach, motivate and create an accountability system. The difference is in the selling. The difference is in knowing what makes each athlete tick. Coaches change lives; programs don’t change lives. The people will always matter more than the paper.
